Sussex International Women’s Day - What’s it all about?

Founded in 1995, we are a non-profit organisation run by volunteers.  We organise a one day event for women to meet, celebrate, learn, and have fun together.  International Women’s Day is on 8 March. We organise our day on the nearest Saturday each year.

Having spent many years alternating between  Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, we are now moving to various new locations throughout Sussex. We are encouraging other women and women's groups to hold events throughout the county, be that a large event or a small coffee morning, to promote this very important day and what it means to all women in this country and globally.

Normally, we meet once a month for social and planning,  more often towards the day for final planning for the annual SIWD event.  In 2014 we worked with The Womens Hub to organise an event in Worthing.

For 2015 we were delighted to be working with My Sisters' House CIC, to organise an event back in Bognor Regis.  My Sisters' House is fairly newly formed group, with an aim to create a Womens Centre in Bognor Regis.  Their work has started well and plans are on schedule.  The 2015 International Womens Day event was a great platform to promote their plans.

During 2016, the SIWD group will continue to meet socially, but we also aim to start a monthly or bi-monthly discussion group about national and global issues relating to women.  This will achieve awareness, and a guide to what we can all do to bring about changes.  If we all play our part, even if just making others aware and encouraging the use of sites such as 38degrees and Avaaz or joining organisations such as Women for Women, we can change life for many women.  If you are interested in joining us, please do contact via this website.
